Future Plans

Vision and Goals:

The vision of the Glacier View Lodge (GVL) Society is to provide "caring innovative community responsive to the complex needs of our diverse population" and is in keeping with the original 1946 initiative of the Women's Institute of Northern Vancouver Island to establish a "Home for Senior Citizens in the Comox Valley".

As we look to the future, and based on the needs of the Community as determined by the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA), the GVL Society will focus its efforts and resources on the provision of residential and community services for the elderly while also continuing to be a centre of excellence for residents and clients who suffer from moderate to severe dementia. Our overall plan and approach is presented in the GVL Strategic Plan wherein major objectives or future goals are identified, namely:

  • Quality Resident Care
  • Staff and Resident Safety
  • Identification and Addressing of Risks
  • Expansion of Services to Meet Community's Needs
  • Maintenance of Independence and Sustainability as an Organization

These goals are defined in greater detail in the strategic plan. The goal "expansion of services to meet community's needs" centers on pursuing initiatives leading to the provision of residential opportunities for seniors aged 55+ on our available 37.5 acres of adjacent land, inclusive of a continuum of care ranging from assisted living to end of life care. Should the Vancouver Island Health Authority confirm a requirement for additional beds in the Comox Valley, Glacier View Lodge is well positioned to respond favorably to this or any such future requirement.
